Local Cryotherapy
Knusel, Otto
Abstract
The intoduction of cold pads has greatly simplified treatment, although, because of the properties of the material used, the length and intensity of their effect were initially not all they migth have been. A new form of cold storage system is now available which is expected to lead to qualitative and quantitative improvements in cryotherapy.
The efficacy, duration of effect and tolerance of local cryotherapy were investigated within an open study conducted by the Zurzach Rheumatics and Rehabilitation Hospital, involving 25 patients. The inclusion criteria included the following diagnoses : acute episodes of chronic polyarthritis (n=8), condition after total knee joint prosthesis implantation, in part with secondary effusion(n=12), as well as acute humeroscapular periathropathy (n=5).
After regular application maintaining the above method, all patients showed a distinct regression of the subjective symtoms and of the objective results.
The application of KTK-LONG in local cryotherapy with diseases of orthopaedic-traumatological origin and with acute rheumatic conditions provides objectively and subjectively measurable effects.
